The WCPA’s New Chiefs Mentoring Program provides cost-free professional development for new police chiefs throughout Wisconsin. By connecting new chiefs with experienced law enforcement leaders, the program offers practical guidance, professional support, and a network of trusted resources.

WCPA New Chiefs Mentoring Program

Support for New Chiefs

The program pairs new chiefs with veteran chiefs who have been trained as mentors. Mentoring relationships may last up to six months or follow a more informal arrangement based on the new chief’s needs and preferences.

Through site visits, face-to-face meetings, and phone conversations, mentors help new chiefs discuss challenges, explore solutions, and plan for the responsibilities of leading their departments.

Share Your Expertise

Building a professional network takes time. To help new chiefs access guidance when they need it, the WCPA is developing a network of subject matter resources.

Experienced chiefs and command staff can volunteer to answer questions and offer advice in their areas of expertise without committing to a full mentoring relationship.

Areas of expertise may include building projects, policies and procedures, union issues, media relations, and other aspects of law enforcement leadership.
