WCPA New Chiefs Mentoring Program

The WCPA is proud to announce the implementation of a cost free professional development program available to all new Chiefs in Wisconsin.  The New Chiefs Mentoring Program is an exciting opportunity for veteran Chiefs and new Chiefs alike.

The program matches veteran chiefs who have been trained as mentors with new incoming chiefs for a period of up to 6 months or on a more informal basis depending on the needs or desires of the new chief.   During this time, the veteran chief provides valuable support to the new chief through a site visit, face to face meetings or phone conferencing to discuss and plan for the unique challenges the new chief will face.

The WCPA recognizes that nobody has all the answers and to overcome the challenge of building a network of resources that could take years, the WCPA is creating a list of subject matter resources that are available to new chiefs.  This is another opportunity where rather than being a full blown mentor, chiefs or command staff officers with experience in particular subject areas can be a phone call away for any new chief.  Chiefs or command staff officers with experience in building projects, policy & procedure, union issues, media relations, and many more areas can volunteer to be just a phone call away and provide insight and advice for that new chief.
